As the weather warms in North Texas, my extrovert is ready to be out and about with all my friends. I mean, it is prime patio and brunch weather, right? In my mind, I think I am a bit of a Martha Stewart so naturally, I like to make plans for my prime social season. If you want to gather, but have no idea where to start, I’m here to help!

Start with the what

Sometimes the event you pick helps you define the “who” and “when” that the event will entail. For instance, if I decide to plan a Shakespeare at the Park, those happen on set days in the DFW metroplex, and I am more inclined to pick friends that like the arts or are willing to try something new and not complain about the Texas weather (that is sure to be hot).

Make a list of fun activities you would like to try in your favorite note-taking app. This will be a great basis for future events you would like to plan and keep you fairly adventurous between Netflix binges (it’s all about balance, right?)

If you’re currently out of ideas, here are some easy social events you can plan around:

-local Summer Concert Series

-Late Nights at a museum

-Potluck Brunch Party

-Local festivals

-At home BYO-Wine tasting

-Book club

-Winery/Brewery tours

-Lazy river/tubing

-Game night

Decide on the who

Work friends, long-time friends, church friends, friends of friends, whatever. We typically exist in a multitude of social circles that rarely naturally coincide. You can choose to have one event that caters to one group of friends, or pick a few from different groups to make the ideal mix for your social event. In general, I try to pick people who I know would enjoy the event to make for the best experience.

Choose the when

Feel free to decide a date, but remember people have other social engagements. I try to plan things a month to a month and a half out, so I can notify my friends in a polite amount of time. To help with this, I choose Paperless Post for my event management. Using Paperless Post, I can send out beautiful, modern invites and keep up with the RSVPs all in one place. In particular, I like their Flyer option that comes in an easy format that I can text on the fly.

Have fun!

The key thing is to get with friends and have fun! This is the perfect time to get out and try something new in your town, or just get together with people you haven’t seen in a while. Take pictures, share some laughs and enjoy.
